No store page-Admin page errors

After my install I get No store displayed and my admin page give me this repeated error.

Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in /home/suzan/public_html/store/includes/classes/db/mysql/query_factory.php on line 177

I installed this on a linux server about 5 months ago and it worked fine. that server used simple control panel, we kept getting over useage errors on that server so we upgraded to a new server this one has more memory and uses cpanel/WHM.

This is what the system check says:

File and Folder Permissions
In order for the installer to store the setup information you provide in the following pages, the configure.php files shown below need to be "writable".

In order for many Zen Cart™ administrative and day-to-day functions to work properly, You need to mark several files/folders "Writeable". The following is a list of folders which need to be "read-write", along with recommended CHMOD settings. Please correct these settings before continuing installation. Refresh this page in your browser to re-check settings.

Some hosts may not allow you to set CHMOD 777, but only 666. Start with the higher setting first, and switch to lower values if required.

You're using an old version of Zen Cart on a newer version of PHP than which it was designed for.

Upgrade to the latest version of Zen Cart and those "deprecated" "ereg" errors will go away automatically.

I am using Zen Cart 1.3.8a

Exactly as I indicated. You're using an old version of Zen Cart on a newer version of PHP for which it wasn't designed.
Upgrade your Zen Cart version to be compatible with the PHP version you're using.
