I've been putting pre-scaled thumbnails (the _MED and _LRG thing) on the site, and it's working for 85% of the product listings. There are four small thumbnails that are still being dynamically scaled by Zen Cart, and I can't figure out why. I've confirmed that the image files are all present, named properly, scaled to the right sizes, and open in an image viewer.
I've tried flushing the cache and even running Window Washer. I've also tried this in FF, IE, Opera and Maxthon with the same result.
On a side note, I noticed that the "graininess" of the dynamically scaled images is worse in FF than the other browsers. IE does a little better job, and Opera smoothed them out so much that for a moment I thought it was working properly. I added a small red do to the lower right corner of the small thumbnails so I could tell at a glance whether the image was pre-scaled or not. None of the browsers show the thumbs in question with the red dot, so they are definitely still being scaled on the fly.
The site is Nelson Fine Arts
The problem thumbs are:
Landscapes|Napali Sunset
Marine Life|Grotto Rhapsody
Marine Life|Passage to Paradise
Marine Life|Racing the Wind
Here's what the thumbs should look like if they aren't still being dynamically scaled:
