    red flag Site does not load in IE--other browsers are fine

    I've got a Zen Cart site running at http://kaysshoes.com/ which has suddenly become unreachable via Internet Explorer on Windows.

    The site works find on Firefox 2.0 (Mac and Win), Safari 2.0 (Mac), Internet Explorer 5.2 (Mac) and Opera 9 (Mac).

    Does not work in Internet Explorer for Windows, versons 7.0, 6.0, or 5.5.

    IE7 gives the following non-helpful error message:

    "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

    Most likely causes:
    You are not connected to the Internet.
    The website is encountering problems.
    There might be a typing error in the address."

    Since Firefox can reach the site from the same machine, and the address is typed correctly, none of these explanations holds water.

    6.0 and 5.5 give no error message, they just load a blank page.

    A simple HTML page (no PHP) works fine on IE: http://kaysshoes.com/index_old.html

    But the site worked fine as is on IE until today or last night--last site update was yesterday at 8:30 a.m., and the site worked fine at that point. This was a simple HTML tweak, which I've since reversed with no effect.

    I'm going to start a file-by-file comparison of this site with a copy of the site from last week, but any hints would be most welcome.

    The site is simultaneously afflicted with a login problem in the browsers it does load into. There's more here:

    http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56490

    I've got no idea if these two problems are related.

    Has anyone encountered simliar problems? Any clues about what's happening here? Thanks.

    Mike

    Ask your host what has changed on your server since it last worked?

    Are you or have you been using SSL? The login page is not secure when viewed with FF.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

    The support request is into Dreamhost, but I haven't heard back.

    We haven't been using SSL. We've got the following set:

    In /includes/configure.php:
    Code:
      define('ENABLE_SSL', 'false');
    In /admin/includes/configure.php:

    Code:
      define('ENABLE_SSL_CATALOG', 'false');
      define('ENABLE_SSL_ADMIN', 'false');
    I did get an SSL certficate warning early today when accessing Dreamhost's control panel saying the certificate was out of date. Could an out-of-date SSL certificate on the server affect access to a site over plain http? My thought is no, esp. since a vanilla HTML file w/o PHP loads fine.

    I do believe that a server's certificate expiring or being broken in some way could affect your site in the manner it has.

    Is there any easy way to check on this issue? I don't have a certificate for this domain (or any of my domains)...

    This is your host's problem. Need to talk to them.

    Yup, it was DreamHost's problem. I just moved the site over to TextDrive and it runs fine. And faster.

    Just have to wait for DNS to propigate now...

    I also had the same problem, and I use Dreamhost as well. It seems they upgraded to PHP 5 from PHP 4 and in doing so, previously installed versions of Zen Cart no longer work in IE browsers.

    To fix it, I went back to "One-Click Installs" and found a link to upgrade Zen Cart to its latest version. I went ahead and upgraded it and my website showed again in IE browsers.

    However, the upgrade reset all of my pages to their default settings and I had to go in and manually fix those.

    Hope this helps anyone else who's having the same problem.

    I just took a look in ie7 and it looks normal to me.

    Sorry, just saw that you moved it to a new host.
