Default Copying classic template

I'm following the instructions in the Zen Cart book. Page 273 describes copying the 'classic' template to a folder and calling it 'magic'. I did that, then switched to the new template. The problem is that the 'classic' template looks like this:

And the new (magic) template looks like this:

What's the go with that? Why did the side boxes disappear and the 'Tagline Here' text appear?

I'm trying to use the override system so that I can create a new template I can edit the CSS on and get rid of the book ad in the middle.

Ah ha! It work now - thanks!

Now how do I get rid of the "Congratulations! You have successfully installed your Zen Cart™ E-Commerce Solution.
Welcome Guest! Would you like to log yourself in?" text?

Thanks! I turned off the welcome message.

I've created the includes/languages/english/custom/index.php file, and changed the "Congratulations! you have successfully installed..." text, but it's ignoring the custom one and using the includes/languages/english/index.php file. How come?

Change the name of the 'custom' directory to match your template's name - all of your custom folders must have the same name or the magic naming convention won't work.

What about editing the images of the template?

I've changed /includes/templates/magic/images/tile_back.gif to a different colour, but the bottom border of the boxes either side of the screen is still the green of the default template. How can I change this?

After that I think I'm pretty much good to go. I've selected COD and Credit Card as methods of payment.
What do I do now? Shall I sign up with a test account and see if it all works?
How do I know when the site if ready for release? Is there a list of checks I need to run through to ensure it's all functioning properly?

The green sidebox border bottom is in your stylesheet here:

.leftBoxContainer, .rightBoxContainer {
margin: 0em;
border: 1px solid #9a9a9a;
border-bottom: 5px solid #336633;
margin-top: 1.5em;
}
Country Kitty Crafts
