    Default Zen maybe free but.......

    Hi,

We are seriuosly thinking about moving all of our ecommerce sites (our own and also clients) over to ZenCart. Yes, Zen cart is free etc etc, but how much would a 'sensible donation' be for using all of your hard work?

I am not the type of person to make a mint off of other peoples hard work (yes you know who you are ) so what do people think is a fair 'donation' to the ZenCart Team?

Well, you could buy each of the Developers a New Car but that would be over 'n above what is expected.

Or you could donate $100, $200, $10 or even $20. Whatever works for you and is something you can live with.

Remember as well, it may be free to get started with Zen Cart but for work involving; upgrades, customization, etc., you may end up needing to hire someone and would be paying their going rate.

If you were going to license equivalent software, with guaranteed upgrades and support, you'd be getting a bargain at $200/yr. I'm curious how other ZC users price the value and service. I work for a non-profit as a webmaster, and each year I ask them to pay ZC $200. (used to do a paypal monthly donation, but my boss prefers lump sum now.) We sell over $100,000/yr of products through the online store.

IMO ZC is not for the utter newbie, but for someone who isn't afraid of looking at code, and has some acquaintance with setting up web applications (you don't have to be a web application developer!) it's a wonderful app. When I started, I didn't know anything about PHP, but I was somewhat familiar with computer code, and very familiar with HTML and somewhat familiar with a Linux environment.

(might want to move this discussion to the Pub?)
