Default Fresh install on new (unix) host

I have tested my shop on a different host and it's worked fine. No issues in installation. Now i'm using a new host and i've run into some problems.

Pre-install, i'm told cURL not compiled into PHP. But I don't want to process payments on the site, or use an express checkout. Just normal Paypal, so I think that's ok.

Also PHP API mode = cgi-fcgi. I gather that could be part of the problem on this UNIX setup.

PHP Output Buffering (gzip) = OFF.

Other than that, i'm all clear.

When I install it, I have two problems. No images display on the site apart from those in /images/. There is no CSS formatting. This applies to the standard website and the admin section. Have any advice? I'm stuck

Do you use different currencies? curl also required for the lookup/update...

I know you do not want to hear this but get with a host that supports ecommerce better yet Zen Cart, you life will get alot easier.

    Hi Kobra,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm only using Pounds sterling and don't intend to allow the use of any other currencies.

I'd love to switch hosting package, but unfortunately we're stuck with it for a few months yet, and I've had no luck persuading my boss to change it.

I suppose i'm really looking for things I can try out, whether my host should do something to help me, is it the installation going wrong or something I can fix later on.

Since its stylesheets and images that aren;t working, I suppose a file is looking in the wrong place for those items.

The hosting provider has made some changes to better accomodate zen cart, it's working much better now. Thanks very much for your advice.
