Changing Categories Sidebar Widget

I've been pouring through tpl_categories, etc etc and I'm having the hardest time finding where it adds a prefix. I suspect it has something to do with: CATEGORIES_COUNT_PREFIX but cant find where its set.

Right now, I have a weird widget in front of my sub cats. example:

BIGCATEGORY
|_Little Cat
|_Little Cat
|_Little Cat

I want to change |_ ! Their are also too many spaces, and I know its in the same spot.

Those are controlled in admin > configuration > Layout Settings>
Categories Separator between the Category Name and Sub Categories |_
Categories SubCategories Indent   

and you may also want to style

Categories Separator between the Category Name and Count
Categories Count Prefix  (
Categories Count Suffix )
