Shipping based on State/Province or Zip?

Can shipping charges be based on state, province or even zip code that the items are being shipped to?

I have tried to set up "Zones" however Shipping to Hawaii is more expensive than California, yet both locations are within the "United States Zone".

Remove those that do not apply....place in a seperate zone.

I think that there is a lower 48 zone def also

I am having the same issue, and i don't understand your reply Kobra

I am trying to set up shipping rates for New Zealand

we have 16 provinces 9 of which are on the North island the remaining are on the South island, The shipping rates for the 2 islands are different,

With the zones shipping it says

Comma separated list of two character ISO country codes that are part of Zone 1.

there is no mention of being able to set it per province, how do I set a shipping rate for the North one and another one for South island, short of making a seperat country for both

I read that and to me it sounded as though it is impossible to do with Zones shipping, but then I read this thread and it sounded possible

Its called zones shipping but seems to be based on country rather than zone(states) and thats where I am stumped,
I have previously set up zone shipping for countries, but I cannot seem to do it for zones(states) which is what I need this time
