Default Re: Simple SEO URL [support thread]

    Hi There,

    Thanks for a nice add-in.

I am having a little trouble with a couple of things on 1.3.8a.

First, on my multi-language site, if I switch on "Set SSU Multi Language Status", only English is ever displayed, despite the fact the urls are nicely displayed as http://localhost/pm/fr/product...

Clicking on the URL always reverts to the English page, so turning this feature on essentially disables multi-language support for the customer.

Second, when I turn on "Set Link Alias Status" and "Set Auto Alias Status" to remove the identifiers from the URL, some of the pages identifiers are removed for some languages, but not others. This appears to be random, even after all the cache is cleared and all existing entries in the "Manage Aliases" are removed. After clearing everything, next time the site is run, some of the links for products may or may not have the identifiers removed, and the same goes for EZ Pages.

    Any Thoughts?

If 2 pages, products, categories, etc have the same name then only 1 will be translated.

As for the language, I dont see any reason it doesnt work, tho I could be wrong. Where did you download this module?

Is it possible to change the URL's for non product pages such as the new products page?

At the moment it creates /products_new.html is for most people is probably fine but I want to change it to something else (like /latest_designer_clothes.html for example)

I have tried changing the page name in includes/filenames.php and cleared the SSU cache but this just brought up the sitemap / cannot be found page?

Ideally I would be looking to modify the URL re-writting for the new produts, the specials and the featured products pages...

    Thanks

    Thanks Yellow,

    I downloaded version 3.6.7 from here: http://public.rubikintegration.com/

I have briefly turned on "Set SSU Multi Language Status", "Set Link Alias Status" and "Set Auto Alias Status".

    http://www.poolmagic.eu

As you can see the language links no longer work as expected, and even though for some of the languages, the category and product names are different (only one product, five languages), not all the ID's are being removed.

Perhaps you can spot something I am missing.

    Best Regards
    Phaedrus

You can certainly use alias to do this, you dont have to edit your filesname or anything, this is the beauty of SSU. Put products_new in your link field, and put whatever you want in the alias field. You may want to check the Alias Manager video tutorial for more info

Phaedrus, if you would like to i can certainly take a look at your installation and see why things dont work the way it should for you. I will need temporary ftp and admin login info to be PMed to me. Obviously I do understand security concerns since I have helped many others before, so the final decision is up to you.

    Regards

Thanks Yellow - using the Alias feature is getting there... It's re-writing the URL fine now but so products_new.html now goes to the page new_designer_clothing.html but that page cannot be found (404 page)

I've tried clearing all the cache's but it doesn't make any difference!

I wonder how you are putting in the link and alias field, but one problem I can think of is the html extension. From seo point of view, that extension part is not needed anyway, perhaps you want to first take out the extension

Cheers Yellow - that nailed it :)

I removed the html extension from the SSU config...

It's a shame it didn't work with the .html extension though - it makes the URL's look neater somehow...

I will look into it in future versions. But just for some info, in the seminar I attended recently with the big G guys, I had this question and they told me the html extension doesnt really have any value. It will just mean your client will have to type some extra characters
