Default web designers killed my site!

I think my web designer may have customized my site so I can't add sideboxes or anything. When I do, the page gets completely messed up and the background is weird.

Although I told him i needed all control over the front page, he mentioned something about customizing, and now I can't get ahold of him. How do I fix this, or at least add sideboxes?
I need several things: 1. newsletter signup box, 2. news 3. links to my myspace & blog 4. links to my recent press

I'm in desperate need of help. Here is my site: lovelasmuertas.com

can anyone help or walk me through how to change this? Thanks to anyone that can help me!

    Looks nice.

Did he modify a Zen Cart template? If so, then the window width and layout should not get skewed as you say.

Can you post a snapshot of how it does look skewed?

i was thinking of a custom template for myself.
    Cheers!

    A. Your site takes too long to load.
    B. Looks like your Web Designer did a bad job.

Validation show 121 Errors and, although I never checked every one, looks like they were all created by your previous Designer. I say that because the default Zen Cart is error free. This makes it easy to figure out where coding errors came from.

They also probably did some bad code so that the Admin side no longer works properly.

You would not be the first one to have someone who codes badly and/or doesn't understand Zen Cart, creating many errors and breaking things as well. Probably not what you want to hear but it would be best / fastest, if you payed someone (who does good coding and understands Zen Cart) to fix things for you. For that you can post in the Commercial section of this Forum.

Regardless of what Contractor or person you are hiring, always make sure to ask for samples of their work; preferrably sites online.

Yuck. Most of my errors are for repeated colors in my CSS sheet. That was a contributed template. I can fix that.

    I do have 90 errors!

89 errors revolve around the "a" I put in bold below

Line 1, Column 3013: character data is not allowed here.
    …id="navMain">â <ul class="back">â <li><a href="http://site.com

Line 1, Column > 80: XML Parsing Error: Start tag expected, '<' not found.
    …0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"

    Good eye WebsiteRob!
    Cheers!

Whenever having problems with an HTML page, Web script, or anything used online for a Web site, always best to Validate the page(s). Makes it easy to see what potential mistakes / problems are, before being able to find & fix script problems.

I didn't realize there were so many problems with my page. Are these errors causing the page to load slow? Aesthetically, it looks pretty, but kinda not what I asked for.
Unfortunately he was a friend of almost 7 years! So it's even harder for me to tell him something was wrong, but he'd have to answer his phone first.

Here is what my site looks like if I add two boxes on the right side:

It would take some digging to find the problems, but I think there must be some fixed widths for the "center" column. That is pushing the right side out past the background when you add sideboxes. I would say the template was not designed to have right side boxes active. Suggest you put them on the left or get your designer to fix it.
