Default Help with: url issue, file structure and template...

Have a few questions and we're VERY new at this

    1) When we originally did the zencart install, it ended up as: www.tropicalgardenshop.com/zencart....

We used a splash page, www.tropicalgardenshop.com, and any links clicked will take you to the zencart.

I'd like to correct this if possible bypassing the splash page completely.

    2) Also, we erroneously edited the custom template, instead of your_template....

can the files simply be copied to your_template to correct this?

I'd like to update to 1.3.8, but would like to resolve these issues first.

Finally, as a noob, I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out a safe backup plan. I go through godaddy's database program to backup, and it just hangs forever....

I've tried downloading the entire zencart directory to my desktop using smart ftp, but there is soo much that seems to be missing.

TIA for any help! I'll learn this if it kills me!

    1. Move everything from /zencart to the root directory. Edit admin/includes/configure.php and includes/configure.php to match the directory change (remove references to /zencart) and you're done.

    2. I'm not sure what you mean by "we erroneously edited the custom template". The custom template is what you should be editing. If you mean you changed files in the /classic/ folders, you need to figure out what you changed and copy them to separate folders with the name of your custom template.

This is an old list, but it might give you a start on where to look for files you might have changed.

    • includes/languages/YOUR_TEMPLATE/english.php
    • includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/index.php
    • includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php
    • includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/header.php (to change the logo)
    • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php
    • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_header.php
    • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_footer.php
    • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/images/logo.gif
    • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet.css

Moving the zencart catalog location is as simple copying all of the files and directories from your install folder to the root and correcting the file paths in the configure, php files. There is a tutorial in the Help/FAQ section on this site.

GoDaddy's backup works OK for me, your other option would be to go to the Database Control Panel (phpMyadmin) and export the db. If you need help with this, it is explained in the ZenCart Book.

Try using an ftp program like FileZilla http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla to copy the files from the server to your local computer.

There's a nice tutorial in the tutorials/FAQ about backing your database with phpMyAdmin. I've used it several times without a problem.

Thank you! That phpmyadmin list helps ALOT, as I didn't know what to check to download it..... Getting a reliable back up is paramount before I attempt to move any files, and update to 1.3.8....

    yay!!!
