SideBoxes have disappeared

I installed a vinella copy of Zen Cart on Hostmonster and it worked fine. I then created an new main page (testtemplate) on my local computer and uploaded the local copy of includes/templates/testtemoplate1 to the remote server.

The new main page looks fine but the left side boxes have disappeared. They are still there on the original main page that came with Zen Cart. The center section of the two pages and the overall width of the two pages is the same width on both main pages. It is just that the side boxes have disappeared.

I was under the impression that the Admin program controlled the side boxes and they would be the same for each template while the template program controlled the rest of the page.

My logic is obviously wrong. I wonder what in the testtemplate1 that I sent to the remote server is making the left side boxes disappear?

when changing templates, one must reset the sideboxes the first time a new template is used.

It seems that the current configuration>layout boxes settings apply to all the templates. In other words you can't have separate layout boxes settings for different templates through the Admin program. In theory, both the classic and testtemplate1 should have the same side box look.

Therefore, when I uploaded testemplat1 to the remote server it should have used the current layout box settings which included side boxes.

I can only conclude that there must have been something in the includes/template/testtemplate1 file that I uploaded to the remote server is overriding the layout box function in Admin.

Anybody have any ideas what the problem is?

Did you reset your browser cache after resetting the sideboxes? Do the options show up for your sideboxes with testtemplate1?

Can't really answer that question. All I can say is that testtemplat1 looked fine on my local computer.

This could be the answer but really don't how to reset the brower cache on Hostmonster.

I am assuming you are talking about configuration>layout boxes. The same options always show up for both remote server templates.

The reason for asking about the files is that Zen will look for a file (say the stylesheet) first in the template that is set in the admin. For any file that the template needs that is not in the "custom" directory, Zen will look in the default.

You should have a directory under includes/modules/sideboxes that corresponds to the "custom" directory. That directory will keep the settings that you select for your "custom" template.

Putting both premises together, it appears that you MIGHT not have the "custom" under the sideboxes directory and Zen is defaulting back to the default every time you hit reset.

I am sorry to say I led you down the garden path. The problem was in the Tools>layout boxes all the time. Had many of the boxes in the OFF mode.

However, you did provide me some valuable information which I will be able to use in the future.
