    Default Re: FCKeditor Plugin 2.5

Everyone is going on about CKEditor but when I install it there is no image upload or image browser to insert images. I've spent a lot of time trying to get a plugin to work for uploading images. I have given up on the image browser. So until this works out of the box I dont think CKEditor is very good.

On the other hand I cant get FCKEditor to load either.

And don't count on FXKEditor EVER working. FCKEditor is no longer supported and was replace by CKEditor (there are threads in this support thread which detail this..)

Also if you search through this thread you will see why image upload was DISABLED/OMITTED (not broken.. disabled/omitted).. Short answer as to why.. as I recall it was all about security.. I'm sure that also in this thread someone clever has posted the answer how to add this functionality..

I got FCKEditor working it may be a browser thing. The compatibility check returned false. Returning true made it work. I have the latest Chrome and now works fine.

Image uploading and browsing is a requirement of content management, my customers dont particularly care reasoning behind it and will just ask to make it work, so FCK will have to suit until a image upload/browser is added to CKEditor. I am only using FCK because HTMLArea has no image upload either.

I would like to use CKEditor of course as its more modern.

Regardless of the reasons why you need it my point was this: do not look for this update to be made anytime soon for the reasons I previously posted..

CKEditor certainly supports image management.. the CKEditor for Zen Cart add-on has disabled this feature.. If you want the CKEditor image management features in CKEditor for Zen Cart, you will have to modify the Zen Cart add-on yourself to re-enable this feature.. Like I said, I'm sure if you search this thread or the forum, someone clever has posted how this can be done..

BTW, there is an mod for the HTMLArea editor which adds image uploading capabilities similar to FCKEditor and CKEditor..

No I don't expect updates so that's ok. I've spent hours trying to get image uploading and browsing to work in ckeditor. Got upload to work but have up on browsing. Whereas fck was easier to get to work. Are you sure ckeditor has uploading and browsing built in? I understand a plugin is needed.

No, it doesn't. Developer took this feature away to sell the plug-in separately.

But you can certainly use KCFinder (kcfinder.sunhater.com/docs/integrate) to integrate it to CKEditor.

Yes I am sure.. Image uploading is indeed a feature of CKEditor.. (look around the CKEditor website and see for yourself) the image management features were DISABLED/REMOVED in the CKEditor for Zen Cart implementation.

CKEditor for Zen Cart is an addon for Zen Cart which integrates the CKEditor (http://ckeditor.com/) with Zen Cart.

Please search this thread.. there is a LOT of information about what CKEditor is and isn't, why the image managment features aren't in the Zen Cart integration and the differences between FCKEditor and CKEditor.. OR go to the the CKEditor website.. Your questions will be answered there as well..

CKEditor is a text editor to be used inside web pages. It's a WYSIWYG editor, which means that the text being edited on it looks as similar as possible to the results users have when publishing it. It brings to the web common editing features found on desktop editing applications like Microsoft Word and OpenOffice.
Because CKEditor is licensed under flexible Open Source and commercial licenses, you'll be able to integrate and use it inside any kind of application. This is the ideal editor for developers, created to provide easy and powerful solutions to their users.

You can upload, not browse (I should have said).

    DivaVocals,
CKEditor does not include image-upload capability. That's how they designed it.
The Zen Cart addon doesn't alter the CKEditor code in any way, and hasn't crippled or removed any of its functionality.

There are commercial extensions to add upload capability to it if one wishes to embrace that functionality and its associated security risks.

I stand corrected.. In working with at the Joomla and WordPress plugins/components for CKEditor, many of them include the image upload functions so I (incorrectly) though that the Zen Cart version had disabled this functionality. Since this functionality was disabled/problematic in the FCKEditor add-on I assumed (incorrectly) that it was disabled in the CKEditor add-on too..

I'm not personally looking for that functionality at all.. I do understand the risks of image uploading and have educated my clients and found alternative solutions accordingly..
