red flag Which merchant gateway to use?

Hi, we're new to ZC & have PayPal already configured, but also need a CC gateway for customers w/o a PayPal account.

We currently use a credit card processor (company) for our "keyed in" credit card sales, and now need to add an internet gateway processor like Authorize.net.

But... we're confused about a few things:

    1) Are the options just limited to Authorize.net & LinkPoint, or can we choose a different gateway (ie: our bank's gateway)?

    2) Would it not be better to just use PayPal for all sales? It doesn't make sense to pay various monthly fees, if everything can just go through PayPal. What we don't know is if PayPal can only be used if the customer has a PP account, or if all our sales can go through that?

    Please help!
    Thanks in advance,
    AW

In the downloads section of this site, there are various payment gateway mods available.

Some banks have gateways for zencart that they will help you install once you've signed up a merchat agreement with them. You will need to talk to your bank.

PayPal is the easiest - it will still take card payments from non-members, but its policy of "encouraging" new members at the payment input stage does irritate some people.

PayPal express is better, but I've heard some people have had problems with it.

Off-line processing - (eg: using zencart's built-in CC payment option to collect card data that you then key into your shop EFTPOS terminal) - discouraged, and using this system is likely to be in contravention of your Merchant Agreement. There are onerous penalties for contravening this, and for good reason. Security is an important issue.

Connor Kerr has a very good off-line module (CEON) that is safer than the zencart standard and you may consider this one if you wish to do off-line card processing. Again, my advice is given with the caution that using offline systems may be in contravention of your merchant agreement.

ZenCart is a certified solution for Authorize.net, so you ought to look into that.

You can find great rates for Authorize.net processing via the Partners link at the top of this screen, and support the Zen Cart project in the process!

As screwy as PayPal is getting, I'm looking forward to dumping it.
