    Default Limit Selectable Attributes

We are selling some downloadable products, but I'm having trouble instituting our pricing model as follows:

    Items__Reg.__Com.__All 4__Any 3__Any 2
    Item1__$45___$39___$39___$41___$43
    Item2__$45___$39___$39___$41___$43
    Item3__$45___$39___$39___$41
    Item4__$45___$39___$39

    Item5__$35___$28

    Totals__$215__$184__$156__$123__$86

Individual prices are discounted based on the amount of products they buy. They can either purchase each product at reg. price, any 2 of the $45 items at $43 each, any 3 of the $45 items at $41 each, any 4 of the $45 items at $39 each, or everything at $39 for $45 items and $28 for the $35 item.

I have products set up for each item individually, a product call Any 2, a product called Any 3, a product called All 4, and a product called Complete Set. I've set up attributes for all of the $45 items under the Any 2 and Any 3 products, but how can I enforce how many checkboxs the customer should have checked based on the product? Is there a different way to handle this...maybe with discounts on the attributes?

    Thank you,

    Damian

Instead of checkboxes, you could have two radiobutton or dropdown sets for the Any 2 product, and three sets for the Any 3.

This would allow the customer to pick exactly 2 or 3 products. It would allow them to pick two of the same, so if that would be a problem, you would have to look for a different solution.

Thank you for your quick reply. How do I go about creating attribute sets?

Any other suggestions? I'm having trouble finding the options to implement gjh42's recommendation.

How do I add attributes to my products?
    This gives the procedures.

You will want to create in Option Names Manager option names like "Item 1", "Item 2" and "Item 3", each with a full set of values named like your product titles and created in Option Values Manager.

Then you would add all of the values for Item 1 and Item 2 to the Any 2 product, and the values for Item 1, Item 2 and Item 3 to the Any 3 product.

Get started on this, and if you get stuck post again.

Thanks a lot for your help. I got it figured out.

Any thoughts on making sure they have selected something and not duplicates?

There is no practical way without custom coding to prohibit duplicates here. Can you count on the customer not leaving the same thing selected twice? If the text is prominent enough they should have no excuse...

As for ensuring a selection, I figured I'd let you get the first part done before introducing that. It is definitely something that needs to be taken care of.

For each option name, make another option value called "Select" or whatever. Add each of them to the product as Default and Display Only. This will show distinctly that they still need to do something, and not allow them to add to cart until they do.

I tried added the dummy select option with radio buttons, but it still let me add the product the the cart...albiet with a warning.

Is the product actually in the cart? It won't stop you from clicking the add button, but if you have the Display Only correctly selected, it will kick you back.
