I would like to know if the following example is possible:

We sell products for the automotive industry which of course is vehicle specific, so customer selects:

2 door car and is directed to that area,
A form is on that page that will have drop down menus,

These menus need to relate to each other because if customer picks, lets say Acura (model) and 2005 (year), then the (make field drop down box) would need to populate itself with all the 2 door vehicles made by Acura for the 2005 year.

Right now, we just have a test box for people to fill in, but we are seeing too many errors. This way, there can be no mistake when we export the data and import it into our system for order processing.

This functionality is not present in Zen Cart nor any off the shelf open source solution that I am aware of. I also have not seen a module specifically for this.

What you are requiring is selection or filtering by attribute (known by other titles also). The closest module that you might be able to modify for your purpose is the PC configurator module in the downloads/other section

i would really like to find out how this can be done as well. if anyone has any input on what needs to be customized/edited please post your suggestions here. I am sure there are other people with automotive sites that would like find out the solution to this as well.

You will want to look at an AJAX call (at least, that is the preferred way of doing it. That way the page does not reload on every click). Basically program the onclick event to call a php file where you are then building the option values for the select box.

As was stated earlier, you will not find an out of the box way of doing this. This will require custom programming.
