Main Item Pic specific to attribute choice

I was wondering if anyone knew how to get the main pic to change once a specific attribute was chosen. So, say by default the picture is a blue shirt. When a customer chooses green from the color options, a pic of a green shirt will replace the blue shirt. I noticed in the attributes manager, you can add alternate pics to specific attributes, but that merely displays the pic below everything else on the page. For a cleaner look, I was hoping to just replace the main pic.

I've seen this done before on numerous sites, is there a way to do that with this backend?

Does anyone at least know what I'm talking about? More than a few have checked this post out, and it seems like something that is a little bit common...
