"Call to a member function" Error When Trying to Send E-mails

When I go to Tools->Send Email, I see this error message at the top:

Call to a member function read() on a non-object in *****/mail.php on line 380


New account emails and customer-to-store emails appear to be working.

I've come across this same error. Still searching for a solution.

I upload the admin folder again and that seemed to work.

Good to see that
In future if possible please take the backup of the files you are going to overwrite.
After the things work out, compare the files so that you can figure out what the problem is. It it will help others as its not always possible for everyone to overwrite the files

I did the same thing and now it works. I had originally tried to overwrite the file by uploading with FileZilla, but it apparently wasn't replacing the file. I uploaded through my host and then it worked.
