Order Only Products/Payment Module - Plz Hlp :)

Hi,

Does anyone know how I should go about setting up a product that is only available for order. The products in question shipping charges are all calculated manually depending on what it is. The store owner wishes to manually process these products while all other products are on flat rate shipping.

I need to be able to set up a system along the lines of - if this "enormous product type" product is in the cart then the checkout process should just be an ORDER otherwise process using paypal as per usual.

Has anyoune had to do anything like this? Thanks in advance for any advice.

What do you have to distinguish these Products from other Products?

You have options of using products_weight ... as you said all other products are flat rate ...

Or, master_categories_id ...

Or, something with the products_model ....

Or, umm ... what currently are you using ... before getting into custom coding for this ...

What happens when both these manual order products are in the cart with regular products?

I really like your suggestion of using the master_categories_id as all of the products that require manual processing are actually in one category and that is not very likely to change over the life of the store. As for how the manual order products should be processed when in a cart with regular ones, I would like to keep this really simple and just process the entire order manually in this case.

Here is what I think should be able to happen:

1. Add (Normal)Products to cart
2. Add (Manual)Products to Cart
3. Go to checkout
4. If product in order has master_category_id = 1 then manual_processing else paypal_processing

manual_processing

1. Owner receives order
2. Owner calculates price
3. Owner communicates with Customer via Phone/Email for confirmation of price
4. Order is then updated and sent to PayPal??? or CC is Processed Manually?

You have made me think a little more about this than I was capable of prior to your suggestions (Thanks for that!!!). Do you think a reasonable solution for my manual products order processing would be to model it on the Cheque/Money Order module that Zen provides by default?

Where would be the best place to insert custom code to handle this type of separation?
