help question FedEx Mod: Drop Off Type: 2 = request courier option, Is anyone using this setting?

    Hello,

I am looking for someone who uses the FedEx mod on their site and has their Drop Off Type set to 2 = request courier option.

    How does this work?

Do you need to pick up the phone and call FedEx to tell them to swing by and pick up a package? Or does FedEx get notified automatically when an order is placed through Zen Cart and they just show-up the next day?

    Anyone know how this works?

    Thanks

    Cienwen

The Fedex Shipping Module does not ship anything, it is merely a rate requester,

Further the "Drop off" type in reality does nothing.

There are a million reasons I think of off the top of my head as to why doing Auto Generated Shipping Documents would be a bad idea for the check-out operations of the shopping cart.

Now it would be possible to integrate an admin Ship Manager but you should never want to do this as part of the customer checkout process, which is when the shipping modules are run.

there is not one for Fedex, I think is this a ship manager for UPS or USPS out there, Fedex's legal dept is a pain to deal with so you dont see many people writing software for them,

    Thank you.

That is a good point. Now that you mention it I can see problems with auto-notification also. Probably not a good thing.

I still have to wonder though. What is the point of the different drop-off types if they don't really do anything?

Alas, my important questions are answered nonetheless.

    Thanks.

That is the thing, they SHOULD do something, The different Drop Off Types reflect different Rate Charges from Fedex,

Counter Sales have a higher Base Rate than Business with Every Day Pickups, Request a pick will cost you $4-6 on average, this is not reflect either.

This is not a bug in the module, but a problem with Fedex's web services. the Drop-off type has no effect on the RateRequest web services, thus you will see the same rates no matter how you change the drop off type.

The Current Module is not with out its flaws either however.

The List prices dont work, and they should,
There is no option to select the different level of Signature Requirements, each have a different surcharge level
There is alot of extra configure items that have zero effect on the rate and are not needed.

I am working on a replacement that corrects some of these, but my Paid Jobs come first and right now I have 3 other projects on the board, I am about 60% complete with my fedex module but it may be awhile before I can release it.

Well that sounds great. I look forward to tying your Mod when you are done. If you remember, drop me a line when you are finished!
