discount on shipping based on # of items

As the title says ... I need a way to discount shipping for multiple items ...
ie: customer orders 5 widgets ... cost of shipping per widget is $5.00
if you order more that 3 widgets shipping cost per widget is $2.50

2 widgets shipping = $10.00
3 widgets shipping = $5.00
total shipping cost = $15.00

The shipping module is using the table rate based on weight.

I could just set a volume discount on the price of the item => 3, then discount $5.00 ... but client would rather have the discount on shipping rather than cost of item.

Is this do-able?

I'm looking for a way to do this also. 5.00 for first item, additional $2 for each item after that. any ideas?

Why dont you set 3usd handling fee, then 2usd for each item? That way first item always seems to have a 5usd SH cost while the rest have 2.

I have a question about shipping costs with my zen cart for www.baysbeautyskincare.com site.

I use my shipping cost based on product weight, which is Per Unit - perweightunit.

Now if someone has a big order, their shipping is going to show a big shipping cost and I do not want that. How do I do this so that I have a combined shipping cost were my customer isn't going to have to pay a fortune?

I too am having the problem where I'd like to set up combined shipping where the first product is charged a shipping cost but the next is free. Just can't find how to do it anywhere!!!
