Default www missing from site in google - no idea why

    Hi,

I have a problem with my site - my domain is getting indexed in google without the www.

    so instead of http://www.example.com

I get http://example.com which I do not want.

I have no idea why this is occuring, my host (j.s.w.e.b) installed zen cart for me so it could be something they did not do, it is also missing the www when browsing the site.

I am aware that google will see the two urls as different - so I may have to do a 301 direct for the http://example.com so I do not get penalized by google , but first how the heck do I get the www infront of my site and why was it not there in the first place?

    Thanks in advance -

    Ben.

p.s. if anyone wants to look at the url just PM me thanks.

At 6.34pm this customer posted to the JSWeb HelpDesk which was answered at 7.58pm (a less than 2 hour response on a Friday evening!! ).

There was no big issue and no failing of duty - for others with a similar concern (regardless of whose server they're on) it was simply that the entries in the configure files did not include the www.

There's a very informative article here about this issue

Thanks Ryk. I can not believe how fast that was resloved - I am more than happy with the service from JSweb and I thoroughly reccomend them to anyone. Infact I intent to host our main site with them later this year.

kuroi: I do not expect anyone to jump through hoops as a. I am not a clown and b: I rarley ask for help on this forum dispite using it frequently. I apologise if my question appeared demanding. I do not want to make enemies here.

Forgot to add for those interested - I did not post the URL for a number of reasons firstly -

As it would be necessary to give my admin and password as this was not a problem which could be investigated by simply looking at my site - which I think would be best dealt with via PM.

Secondly - I do not want other search engines picking up my site as it is not complete (I know its too late for google now)

    hope this clears things up.

Easy, easy. The issue is closed. Time to let it go.

For future reference, you can always use a "yoursite dot com" arrangement to prevent the URL from being picked up by search engines, and it's very rare that a URL isn't helpful. In this case we would have solved the issue instantly by hovering over any of your links, seeing the URL that was being generated, and knowing where each part of the link is generated would have have led us straight to your configure files with no need to go anywhere near your admin.
