I know the download directory is
/download
this dir would look pretty jammed up with lots of download files...
is it possible to set download files into sub-directories?
ie:
/download
/seotools
/webmaster
/ phpscripts
ideas?

Not at this time ...
This is on the list of things to do when we rewrite several of the aspects of Downloads to make them even more flexible ...![]()

I have a multitude of zips from different designers. Is there a way to separate them so one does not download a zip that is not theirs?
Thanks!
Why would your designers have access to the download directory?
If you allow them access you cannot control what they download.
because they upload their zips to the download directory. I trust them but eventually I want to add more and would like the newbies to have their own folder.
This is what I did and it works great for us...
I make a folder inside the download folder, for me I use my Designers name.
Then I setup an ftp account for them that allows them access to only that folder. So they can upload their files to that.
They can even make subfolders in their folder.
When setting up products in the store, you just add their extra path to the front of the file name...
/DesignerName/FileName.zip
I have many designers setup this way and everything works great.
They can even create subfolder of their own in their own ftp folder and link to those files fine in attributes as well.
So like
/DesignerName/ProductType/FileName.zip
Hope this helps and is clear...
Oh I really like your name...
Thanks for the help! It was just what I was looking for and it helped.
Hi all.
Hmm thanks!!
The thing with our store is we sell large downlable products which are broken up in multiple files. So 1 product has lets say 5 files. In time this can clutter up the main download folder. So what i want is a folder for each product or maybe category/product. Like this:
Lets call a product "Flower Scrap" and that is broken up in 3 files.
Inside the main download we can do this then...
/download/flowerscrap/flowerscrap.part1.rar
/download/flowerscrap/flowerscrap.part2.rar
/download/flowerscrap/flowerscrap.part3.rar
And for product called "Fruit Scrap"...
/download/fruitscrap/fruitscrap.part1.rar
/download/fruitscrap/fruitscrap.part2.rar
/download/fruitscrap/fruitscrap.part3.rar
Am i on the right track with this?
DigitalScrapDesign thank you for giving me some idea :)
Yes we have multiple files sometimes too... and this works fine for us.
Hopefully I can explain it clearly enough, and not forget anything, but its really pretty simple...
You will need to go into admin and add the option names and option values for each possible download you want... I did mine like
(option name) download #1 / download #1 (option value) Zip File,
(option name) download #2 / download #2 (option value) Zip File,
(option name) download #3 / download #3 (option value) Zip File,
--- etc...
I did plenty of extras (18 possible files, but you can easily add more if needed any time) so that if my designers have a lot of files they can get them all added...
When products are added you just use the attributes to match the option name to the option value, file path insert (any folder in the download directory will work and you don't need to put the /download/ in there... the store should already know that part of the path)... then add another and another incrementally the same way to the same product.
You can see a product with this arrangement here, and how it looks to the customer (this is a live site so please no fake orders) --
