okay, I noticed something. I did a test:

Order

Qty Product price
2 test $149

total: $298.00



now in shopping cart it shows this:

$298.00
298 reward points with purchase


but in Reward Points sidebox, it says this:

149 reward points in cart
0 points earned
0 points pending

shouldn't it also say 298 reward points in cart?

not sure if has to do with my install or is a clitch. Anyone get else get the same problem?

Your right. I use the shopping cart box with the reward Points and it displays correctly. It's the box reward Point box that doesn't account for more than one of the same item. The code used to display both should be pretty close to the same. I will see if I can see something that can be fixed by me. If not, will have to wait for andy to do it.

I did notice something when I was doing some final testing. Here is what I did and the result:

I placed 10 different items in the cart. Each item was 4.75. Total for cart was 47.50. Total reward points was 50. I know how it got that since it rounded each item up. so each item was worth 5 points. I don't mind rounding the final total up but each item can lead to a rather large amount at the end of the day.

Say you have a fairly busy store and you sell 500 items in total at the end of the day. Say each sale gave an avg. of 1 point extra after rounding. Now you have given out 500 points free in one day. Over time that can really add up.

I really don't know how you could do it any other way though than andy has designed it. I guess you could do it on the subtotal of the cart, but then you would have to have a global ratio and not have varying ratios like you can have now.

Of course this works in reverse. If you have 10 items in your cart and each one is 4.25 your total is 42.50, but your earning 40 reward points. The customer doesn't mind the first scenario, but may wonder about the second one.

One way around this is make sure everything you give reward points on is within .05 cents either side of even. This way the change is not a big difference.

Just my thoughts.

Ok, I can see why the one in the cart displays correctly with multiples of the same item in the cart and the rewards sidebox doesn't, but I can't fix it. I tried, but I'm no coder so will have to wait for andy to do it.

Just a couple things we noticed while testing. I tried fixing one of them, but to no avail. Read my last post and you will get an idea on what we found.

PTC- thanks to you and JC for covering while I was away. I'm back now.

I've attached an interim fix for the incorrect reward points problem. I'm currently coding the "Reward Point/Order State change" functionallity which will allow store admins to decide which of the Order Status's make reward points pending and which make reward points earned (and which to ignore- like "Update"). I've also coded in your "Remove Sidebox When Empty and/or Not Signed In"

Yeah I see your point. So another question, what about when they do redeem the points and you have to ship out the product. Anyone have any idea's on how to offset the cost, from a business prospective (since points really only monopoly money)? lol

for my i am thinking of just putting the points funds from the orders in an high interest savings, so when the points are redeem, it cost me nothing to ship.

Hello. Very Nice mod. but i have a problem.. dont know how to exit also because none seems to have it. Everything is working but in the admin area i cant see the menu entry. At its place i see only after configuration:
BOX_REWARD_POINTS, 'link' => zen_href_link(ADMIN_FILENAME_REWARD_POINTS, '', 'NONSSL')); ?>
and there is no entry in catalog. I checked a lot of times and i placed all the files in the correct folder. any ideas? thanks

Add a Config item which allows reward points only to be redeemed against other products and not shipping???

And I'll move the rounding to the final total rather than each item.

Finally there was an earlier question about what the reward points are based on- They are rewarded against the base price of any product so sales and specials are not currently taken into effect.
