Abandoned shopping cart

I have been told that I should be able to see what is in a customers abandoned shopping cart. Can anybody tell me how to do this? I don't know if this is a special feature that needs to be set up and if so if it has been. My programmer has up and dissapeared so I can't ask him?

Recover cart sales not only shows what was on the shopping cart. But also is an integrated genereric email that you can send to those customers like

Thank you for shopping by ... and considering is for purchase. we notice that during a visit to our store you place the following item (s) in your shopping cart, but did not complete etc etc

just need to HIT send, Then you have a report to show if you recover, or a response to that email from those customers. Critics or just shopping around, high shipping fees etc.

It sounds like you have some experience with the recover cart module. Do you know if there is a way for it to automatically send the email or must it be a manual process?
