Where are the catalog files stored in what dir
Where are the catalog files stored in what dir
The catalog information is stored in the database. The pages are build dynamically based on what the customer choses.

ok somehow all my products and catagories are gone but the templet is ok I backed up to my home PC the entire dir what do I have to upload to have everything magically appear
If you backed up your database, you should be able to restore it from phpMyAdmin. If you only backed up the Zen Cart files, then your data may be lost. Ask your host if they have a backup of the information.

Where EXACTLY do you want this magical appearance to occur? On your home computer, or on your website (via your remote server)?
If you want to replicate your zenshop on your home computer, you are going to have to configure your home computer as a webserver. You may like to look at something called XAMPP...
It would appear that you don't have a very good grasp of database-driven, dynamic content websites. From your posts, it looks like you understand your product information to be a range of static HTML files, housed somewhere in your site directory.
Think of it like this... if you have ever done a MAIL MERGE in MS Word, where you create a Letter, then bring in each address from an Excel spreadsheet... the excel spreadsheet is your database and is separate from your letter template.

ok I backed up all the zen-cart fles to my pc for saftey sake. I had no clue that the catalog itself was not among those files and that it was stored on the sql server. That is all well and good but my hosting service would like 150 dollars to restore that.
After this happened however I tried to do a search for deleted catalog and was bombarded with posts 99.9% of which had nothing to do with what I wanted and when I found 1 there was 1 response from a "Kim" who merely gave a drive by post of have you tried this and no one ever answered after that.
Some documentation of where the heck the catalog was stored or maybe a free file that we can use to back it up ourselves who be nice.
Not all of us are programmers and don't understand "rocket science"
Kim is one of the developers of ZC, just for your information.
Now, you are asking for help. I understand you are frustrated, but please note that you are NOT paying any of us here any cent for helping you, so you HAVE TO be nice to us.
Jump on to your question: you posted several posts regarding the same issue. And in one of those posts several people mentioned a few options to backup your database (phpMyAdmin which should be available for free on your host, or the backup module which can be found in download section)
Now, if you have NEVER backed up your db, you have NO choice but to pay your host this time. There is NO other way.
I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me
I am not a programmer either. In fact, I've never had a formal lesson in computers in my life. What I've learned over the years has been through patience, carefulness and a plodding method that also leavs me frustrated at times.
To blame us for stuff that you personally don't understand is unfair. As I said in my earlier comments, you appear not to know some of the very important fundamentals about a database-driven, dynamic content website.
I was in EXACTLY the same position in May 2005...
... so the first thing I did was to read up as much as I could on how databases and websites work together. That took up the first two months!
I can give you this assurance though... unless you take the time to understand these important fundamental concepts, you will continue to make (expensive) mistakes - just like many of us did (including me!).
Most of us helping on this forum do so in the belief that the people posting on the forum have a basic unserstanding of dynamic-content websites. We are not here to give detailed lessons that take up hours of time. If you need to learn more about php and mySQL, there are plenty of FREE online tutorials that can teach you what you need to know.
My advice is to use these to increase your knowledge.
PS: We will ALWAYS try to help people who are battling along - if they are polite.
