    help question Editing New Products Listing?

    Hello,
    I recently switched over to Zen Cart and so far and thrilled with it. Except the New Products feature. When I added all my products to the cart, it automatically added the default 9 products to the New Products category. However, there really are not new products and my customers know this. I've looked all over the admin area to find where I can edit these and add actual new products in their place. But I can't find anyplace to do this. Is there no area like the Featured Products area to edit this information? Or does it just automatically add any product that you add to the database to the new products category?

    Thanks for any help :)

    Look in admin > Configuration > Maximum Values > New Product Listing - Limited to ...
    to set the time limit on what is considered "new".

    You can also change the "product added" date in the database if you are comfortable working there.

    Thank You Glenn :)
    Your instructions helped me to narrow down how many products are displayed at a time. However, it is still displaying products that are not actually "New", but "OLD" products that were just added this month because I just this month switched to the new cart. What I need to know, is if I can somehow over-ride this default and hand select AND add my actual real "NEW" products to this category.

    Thanks again

    Well, you have to edit the dated added via database then.

    Thinking about it a bit: how would the system knows if the products are new or not? It has to rely on the date.

    Ok, please bare with me. I'm still trying to familiarize myself with all the whistles and bells in the Admin. I came from a simple Mals Cart

    You are right, this makes absolute sense. Could you please tell me where would I find the area that I can change this date? I tried just going into Edit Product and changing the Date Available to Dec of 2007 and that did not work.

    Thanks so much.

    I think you have to change the date added.
    1. Back up your db
    2. Admin->tools->sql patch: run :

    update products set products_date_added ='2003-11-03 12:32:17'

    Assuming you want to do this for all products.

    yellow1912--or anyone else willing to help-i have the exact same issue that ValhallaSoapGal had. And i am also new to a lot of this. you said,

    <quote>
    2. Admin->tools->sql patch: run :

    update products set products_date_added ='2003-11-03 12:32:17'</quote>

    I went under Admin--tools, but i didn't see sql patch run, instead I saw,

    SQL Query Executor. Is that the same thing? And if so, in the box that says,

    "Enter the query to be executed: Be sure to end with ;"

    Is that where I would type in

    "update products set products_date_added ='2008-xx-xx"

    and do i have to put the time "12:32:17" in the string, as I don't know the time.

    And if i type that in the box and hit send, what happens? will it be clear where I make a change?

    Thanks!

    Yes, that is the place to run sql patches - just more formally named.

    If you are changing the date added, you can set the time to say whatever you want. Call it 00:00:00 or 12:00:00 if you like. Mind the quotes:

    '2003-11-03 12:32:17'
