Gift Certificate Redemption Code include in Confiramtion Email... how?

I know just enough php to harm my site . with that said, i have completed several zen cart sites, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the Gift Cert Redemption Code to show up in the order confirmation email. It of course shows up in the email when a customer sends a gift cert to someone else. Any ideas and step by step instructions? if you need the site or links, let me know. just trying to add that one field to the confirmation email....

i would ideally like for the redemption code to show up somewhere in the customer's account after they have either purchased it, or redeemed it.

kim, i hate it when i don't explain myself fully! thank you for responding; however, i am familiar with gift certs, and have them set up and working successfully. i have the Queue Purchases set to false. seems that because of this, the redemption code is not sent upon initial purchase of said GC. is this not correct? again, if the initial purchaser "sends" the GC to someone else, the new redemption code shows in the email. it is just not showing in the initial purchaser's email order confirmation, and they do not get a seperate email with the GC redemption code. thanks again....

The initial purchaser does NOT need to redeem the GC - it is added to their account automatically.

i understand that. what i am trying to accomplish is the ability for the purchaser to then print out the pdf gift certificate and give it to someone else (without utilizing the "send to" feature). they would need to write the GC code or redemption code on the physical GC. thanks.

ok, i've figured out a workaround (explained below), but now i have a new issue......

i have gift certs setup as regular products (no GIFT prefix on model). i do not want a customer to redeem the GC online for anything (want them to bring into spa). i only want to email or mail them a custom PDF with the GC code that i generate by sending myself a GC. soooo, i want to remove the GC / Redemption Code option from the payment screen. i do not want to remove the entire GC module, as i need it to generate the redemption code. any ideas????? using v1.3.7.

btw, the solution was to create a pdf with fields. just open it up each time, enter the info from the customer's order, generate a redemption code, and put that in there as well. save said pdf (ideally as redemption number.pdf), and either email to customer or who they asked for it to be emailed to, or print it out and mail in a gift box. now i just need that as a payment option on the site to be eliminated.......

new workaround. completely disabled gift certificates modules. modified the order number to be nine digits (can be how many ever you want). so now, customer orders gift cert (setup as a regular product, no GIFT prefix). we receive order notification, go to order, and now user the order number as the "redemption code" that is put in the pdf gift cert and then mailed or emailed. now we are able to track the gift certs brought in by the order number. that was one of my biggest complaints was the redemptions codes were not tied to a specific order, that you could tell anyway. hope this helps somebody....

I'm trying to do a similar thing. I do not want people to be able to buy a gift certificate / redemption code. I simply want to generate a redemption code myself. I then want to give that code (via a personal email) so the person can then go into the shopping cart and order a product using the redemption code and get the discount which I set for the product.

Basically I want to be able to give discounts to select people for a downloadable product without the "buy a gift certificate" option being visible on the shopping cart.

sounds like what you want is a coupon code. in admin, go to Gift Certificate/Coupon > Coupon Admin. setup a coupon (really easy to do, i promise!). once the coupon is setup, you will see several buttons in the box on the right. click on Email. if your customer is in your dbase, you can select their email, or a group, and send it to them. if they are not in your dbase, you can send it to yourself (select Administrator). once you receive the email, you can then forward it to your customer. hope that helps...
