Default Read Only Option Value and Downloads

Will a ReadOnly Option Value for a downloadable product affect the order flow?

I followed the instructions for setting up downloadable products and I have a green "button" next to the filename associated with the product ... but I keep seeing the shipping options page during the checkout process.

    Thank you for your help

I have noticed that if I use option types where a choice is required (i.e. dropdown, boxes, radio) then the product skips the shipping details screen as it is desired. It appears that 1 single readonly option will not work.

So there is a workaround (adding Options) but not an ideal one as I simply want to offer 1 type of download with no options. Is this the known behavior or am I doing something totally wrong?

READONLY Option Name Option Types are not used on the Product as part of what gets added to the shopping cart ...

The READONLY Option Name Option Type is only for the purpose of READ ONLY ...

Let's say you have a message on 100 Products that needs to change on a regular basis ...

You can make a READ ONLY Option Name and use that to change the text ...

NOTE: READ ONLY Option Names are NEVER used for Pricing or for anything that you want to be added to your shopping cart ...

Downloads should be either Dropdowns or Radiobuttons ...

NOTE: An Option Name that is a Dropdown but has only 1 Option Value will display automatically as a selected Radiobutton ... when more than 1 Option Value has been added, then it will automatically revert back to a Dropdown ...

If set as a Radiobutton ... you will want to set a DEFAULT Option Value or setup an additional Option Value for something like:
    Select from below
    Pick one
    What do you want
    etc. etc. etc.

and set as Default YES and Display Only YES ... so that it cannot be selected and forces a real choice by the customer ...
