Tax Issues

Hi All

I need some help please, today my company got its TAX number and thus I decided to start updating my site with TAX

Started by reading the forums and help guides on how to enable TAX on the site
My issue is this:
1 - Setting a product to Taxable goods works out a new GROSS amount for the product in the admin section with a 14% mark up, also shows the new amount in the admin section
But when browsing this product on the site, the old price is displayed

2 - When checking out the TAX amount is not shown or added to the price

3 - When viewing a order where the TAX amount should have been added, the invoice still does not show any data and the TAX section still shows 0%

Any ideas?

There are a number settings to get your taxes set up.

How about these. They seem most likely to cause the problem you described:

Admin-> Configuration-> My Store-> Display Prices with Tax in Admin (recommend setting false to avoid confusion)
Admin-> Configuration-> My Store-> Basis of Product Tax
Admin-> Configuration-> My Store-> Basis of Shipping Tax
Admin-> Configuration-> My Store-> Sales Tax Display Status

Question: is your local tax rate 14%? If so then you have the tax rate set correctly.

Note that unless the order matches the "Basis of Product Tax" tax will not be applied to the order. For example, in the USA it is most common that taxes are applied based on the shipping destination. If your customer lives outside your taxing jurisdiction then no tax will be applied to the order and will not appear on the invoice. If you have your zones set up correctly, taxes will be applied to those orders being shipped to areas (usually your local area) where you must collect tax.

South Africa is 14% all over and i dont ship outside of South Africa

okay, if you still have the problem described I would focus on the Zone settings in admin. The settings you have in the screen shot should display taxes all over the place, unless the system thinks it's not a taxable item or that the billing address is not in the defined zone with 14% tax. It seems like Zones hasn't been set up correctly to tax for all addresses in SA.

Hi

When i set up the site i never used zones as it was just one country

When a client creates his profile, alsmost all of them will select South Africa as a country

So let me post a image of my zone quick.

Let me try and understand the Zones concept

In zones, I have my country
South Africa
Then I need to have each area or province listed
What does the TAX look at when calculating?
Is it area or province or Country
If country then this should be working as all my clients register from South Africa
If Area's or province then im really stuck
