How do you change category order?

How can I have the categories show up in a different order than alphabetical? I entered all the products in the order that I want it in so that the sort order will be correct.. Is they a way to tell to do line up by the sort order? Or is there a way that I can move them around in any order?

The SORT ORDER is a common feature throughout Zencart, and is achieved by creating incremental numbering wherever the SORT ORDER option is shown.

In your case, you need to get to the listing of categories by going to:-

ADMIN >>> CATALOG >>> CATEGORIES/PRODUCTS.

When you see your list of categories, on the RIGHT is a green button. Click the green button relevant to the first category you want to appear.

When the category edit screen appears, scroll down, and in the input field for SORT ORDER, type in 10 (the number, ten).

Now, in the next category you want to appear, open it for editing as you did the first one, and give it a SORT ORDER of 20.

The third one, give a sort order of 30

... and so on.

The reason why you should leave a "gap" (10 - to - 20 - to - 30) is so that if you later on ADD a category and you want that to appear BETWEEN two existing sorted categories, you can do so without having to re-number all the previous sorts.

so if you wanted a newly added category to appear between your 2nd and 3rd categories, you would give it a sort order of 25.

The sort order is also featured for PRODUCTS.

You can go as high as 999 for sort order.
