Is there any other way to update zen-cart other than installing the latest to a temp folder?

Well ... you could update your live shop - but then you could break things too.

Well, I just recently started it, the install from the web host is older version, so it's not live yet. But from what I've looked and found the only way to update is to install the 'temp' newest version.
