Default Using ZenCart as an online payment processor?

Ok I apologize in advance if this is covered somewhere else, but I cannot find it.

I was wondering if it is possible to configure or modify ZC to be an online payment processor for a client of mine. The client is a small plumbing and heating company....and would like to offer their customers the ability to pay their bill securely online. The client would enter an invoice number, payment amount, etc and then proceed to log in / create account and check out as normal. I know that most of the process is already in place in ZC, but I need a way for the customer to specify the $ they want to pay as opposed to purchasing an "item" with a set price.

    Any thoughts??

You could create an item or series of items with set prices say from $1 to $100 and the customer could then "buy" a sufficient amount to satisfy the bill.

If all you need is payment processing, you should just add a paypal button to their website. The customer can choose the amount to pay.

Using Zen Cart, you can configure a single product
use a single text attribute for invoice number and change the text from add to cart to bill amount,

    voila all done

Nice one, Merlin! I have to keep that one in mind for something I'm thinking about doing, but I may end up doing it outside Zen Cart.

Merlin - Are you talking about making a 1 cent item? I have been scouring the forums today and see where you recommended that as a way to accept payments for ebay items.....

Also, is putting a product in the "top" category a no-no? I see that if I put it there it is automatically displayed upon entering the store....

Maybe you could configure admin to allow quantity to be input as a decimal, which would allow customers to put e.g. 52.78?
