Default Need 2 attributes with same name...

    can this be done?
I have a girl's dress that can be personalized, and you can buy matching bloomers which can also be personalized. I need an attribute that says "Name, Single Letter, or Monogram (f, L, m)" . I need two of these attributes on my product page, one for the dress and one for the bloomers. The reason I need 2 is that they can purchase one without the other, and can change up the personalization, if they want, for each.
When I try to add the "Name, Single Letter, or Monogram (first, LAST, middle)" for the 2nd time it gives me the "Duplicate Attribute - Attribute was not added - Name, Letter or Monogram (f,L,m) : TEXT" error.
Is there a way to turn it off and add as many of one attribute as i'd like?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Before I can offer practical suggestions, I need to know:-

Are you selling the dresses and bloomers TOGETHER as a single product (using ONE product code and ID), or is each a SEPARATE product?

If sold as ONE product, how do you allow the customer to buy one component without having to buy the other?

You could set up two option NAMES:-

    1. Inscriptions for Dresses

    2. Inscriptions for Bloomers

Then, under each of these option NAMES, you can set the option VALUES.

    (Option Name) Inscriptions for Dresses
(Option value) Name, Single Letter, or Monogram (f, L, m)

    (Option Name) Inscriptions for Bloomers
(Option value) Name, Single Letter, or Monogram (f, L, m)

    Hi and thanks!
I am selling it together as one item. You can purchase the dress and add the bloomers or not. You can not buy the bloomers as one item alone.
This is the webpage I am attempting to copy (yes, I have permission to do this), it is not my website.
    http://www.princesslinens.com/Mercha...ct_Code=5009WP

See how they have the option listed twice, I want to do it the same way.

I could use your suggestion of having Name, Single Letter, or Monogram for Fancy Pant and one Name, Single Letter, or Monogram for Dress. I just like this other way better. I guess I need to stick with what works than what I want it to do, LOL. Ok, so if I go with your way, how can I lengthen the Option Name to fit all that wording in? It won't fit as it is now.

    Thanks!

Hmm, seems I misunderstood your idea. But I have decided I want to just lengthen the Option Name text area to do it the way I am describing. How would I do that....whre do I change it?

    Thanks again!

In Admin, go to CATALOG/Option Name Manager.

Find the option you want to increase the text area to, and edit it.
You will see a brownish/Tan box that has Rows, Display Size, Maximum Length.
Change the maximum length to whatever you want.

That didn't exactly work. I created my option name, then went to edit and changed max length to 150. This only changes the text area where the customer inputs thier info. I need to change the Option Name text to fit this in "Name, Letter, or Monogram (f, L, m) for Dress". It is too long to fit into option name text area... the area where I would type the option name in. I may not be explaining this correctly but in my mind it is what I need to do :)

You can reset the MAX SIZE (for text attributes) to beyond 32 characters (I think up to 64) when you EDIT the option name.

Create an option name, upto the max characters. save it then EDIT it and change the display size and maximum length.

(Any longer you'd need to tinker with the datbase settings)

And this will allow you more characters for the option name? If that is what it is supposed to do, it didn't work.

I did exactly what you said, I created an Option Name of "Name, Letter or Monogram (f,L,m)" that is all that would fit so that would be the max characters. Then I saved it, then I found it and clicked edit, then changed the display size to 64 and the max length to 64. I then tried to change "Name, Letter or Monogram (f,L,m)" to "Name, Letter or Monogram (f,L,m) for Dress". It wouldn't take any more characters that this: "Name, Letter or Monogram (f,L,m)"
    What am I missing?

    Thanks for the help!

Nevermind and thanks for all the help! I think I have it the way I want it now. This is how I wanted it to work out originally. http://www.brodiegirl.com/index.php?...roducts_id=725 (from my website)

I had to make a duplicate option name, and then give it the sort order to place it on the page where I needed it.
    Worked like a charm :)
