Default Way to add sub-value to value?

    Hello,

I've been through the tutorials and the boards and I can't seem to figure out how to do this, or even if it is possible. I need to add values to option values. For example, let's say you have the option value Fruit and the choices are Apples, Oranges and Berries. If a customer choses apples, then the next choice would be from MacIntosh, Delicious, Granny Smith. If he chooses orange, then it would be from Navel, Valencia, Mandarin. If he chooses berries, then the next option would be Strawberry, Blueberry or Raspberry.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

    Denise

I am also trying to have options based on previous options but have been unable to find out how to do this. Am I also missing this somewhere or is it not possible in the current versions and mods?

This is not currently possible with the stock version of Zen Cart.

There are various mods that address dependent attributes to some degree.
Stock by Attributes may be able to control the ability to add to cart based on multiple attributes, and the new Product Attributes Grid mod does this for two sets of attributes, showing quantity available (if any) for each combination. See the support thread.

There isn't anything like this in Zen Cart ... you could make either an Option Name of Apples and Option Values of your kinds of Apples ... with an Option Value for None ...

Or, make checkboxes, but checkboxes cannot, at this time, be forced or required so that would be up to the customer to make the right selections on each of the fruits ...

Thanks for the replies gjh42 and Ajeh! I was just looking into the Product Attribute Grid and I may be able to get it to work. If not the Option Name and Value method will most likely be the method I use.

Thanks for your suggestions. I ended up just listing them out with the first value and the sub-value so it looks like:

    Apples - MacIntosh
    Apples - Delicious
    Oranges - Valencia
    Oranges - Mandarin

    etc.

Not quite as neat as the customer being able to pick one option then the next value for the option, but it works!
