Zen newbie thinking through discount strategy - help

Hi,

I am using Zen Cart for the first time. I have successfully installed it and I'm starting to work on setup and customization.

I am using it to do class registration and payment for a yoga studio. There are a couple of standard discounts the studio offers and I'm trying to figure out the best way to implement them.

1. Customers who are new to the studio get $15 off on the first class they sign up for.

2. Any customer who signs up for more than one class during the same session (e.g. a Monday class and a Wednesday class) gets 20% off on their order total. I should also mention that there is a defined registration period so that classes from different sessions (e.g. Winter and Spring) are NOT available at the same time.

I just need to be pointed in the right direction with these. I am not sure if I should do these as coupons or a group discount of some kind, or if I am going to need something custom to achieve these goals. If anyone has any ideas or tips, I would so appreciate it. I just don't want to spend hours pursuing something in the WRONG direction! Thanks!

2. Zen Cart's native Quantity Discount feature could work for you.
