    Default Customer Store Template Selector

I did a search but did not come up with any results...

I'm wondering if anyone made a mod that basically allows me to say have 2 or 3 templates for the zen store, but allow the customer to select which template he/she prefers while browsing the site, say with a drop down side box or something.

Does anything like this exist or is it just something I should rather keep in my dreams ;)

    Thanks.

I strongly recommend AGAINST it. Assuming that you are using ZC as an ecommerce store, you want to make sure everything looks the way you want.
Having more than 1 template will make the maintenance task and such a real pain.

Also, when you support your customer, lets say he couldnt find the buy button, you will have to ask him which template he is using.

Also, each template is a work of art, you will have to spend a great amount of time and money to figure out the right formula that works for you (to increase sale and such). So instead of spending time and money on several, why not concentrate on 1 and make it a perfect solution for you?

You are right in a way, but many people have many different tastes, so I thought I could do something like a really cool looking funky template for younger customers and then maybe one thats plain and one thats say darker or lighter, you know just something that they can almost "personalize" there experience as a returning customer.
Also if you get each template working as you want there would be no need for additional maintenance in the future.

I have been running my store for quite a while now already without anyone asking about where the buy button or this and that is.

The templates do take a little time, however I have friends which are web designers and they provide me with different cool skins at no charge...

You forgot the "upgrade" woe, especially when you install a number of modules, it'll be a nightmare ^^.

BTW, yes there is a way to do that, but right now it seems like the customer has to switch template each time they visit.

I agree with Yellow1912. I am often surprised by the number of posts on this forum for gimmicky and flashy add-ons that (in reality) have the nett effect of distracting or irritating customers.

It seems that many people like to have their sites resemble pinball machines in full flight - so that they can either satisfy their own secret desire to master some fussy code, or show off to their friends and peers.

When building an e-commerce site, ALWAYS put yourself in the position of a customer. What do they need and want in order to help them make the right choice about your products?

Add-ons must be kept to a minimum, and be there ONLY if they perform an essential function of the purchase process (eg: attributes for size, colour, style).

Customers are there to buy stuff, and everything should be geared towards encouraging them to do so - quickly, efficiently and enjoyably!
