how to change " getting stripped from page titles?

We have a lot of products with " in the product name. I have been wondering why the double quotes won't appear in the page titles even though they appear fine in the product listing and everywhere else on the.

I changed the " to " in the product name and that changed the page title so that the " shows. My problem lies when I get close to the 62 character limit on the product name, I can't change it to " without going over the limit and dropping off some of the last letters.

So, I thought that I would do the " switch first and then add the dropped letters after I had resaved since it converts the " to " after saving. But when I added the dropped letters it made the page title revert to dropping off the ". I don't know if that was coincidence or not.

I'm assuming that there is some type of sanitizer function that is stripping the " from the page titles? What do I need to change to make it automatically convert the " to " in the page titles?

OR change your database table to accept longer than 64 characters..

I read somewhere else from one of the dev team, Kim or Ajeh, that changing the database tables to accept more than 64 characters can open a whole can of worms? I presume that there are other things that need to be changed, such as core code, to get it to all work right? Am I wrong in thinking this?

I'd like to be able to increase the character limit, but would happily settle for another way to allow the double quote to stay in the page title. I'm all ears!

I'm glad you read further... I did not realise this and will be careful the next time I "spew" before I read!

Well, like I said, I could very well be wrong about that! Hopefully someone that knows more about it than me, like one of the devs(please, please, please!!!) will weigh in here and set the record straight(as well as tell us what needs to be done to save those ").

Another thing that I should note is that I use the product name in the meta tags and I don't create new page titles. With thousands of products it's impractical to create new page titles for everything, although I guess I could do it for those products with long product names if I can create titles longer than 62 or 64 characters. Is the limit 62 or 64 characters?

I hope there is a way to get it to work within the code, changing a regex or sanitizer function somewhere!
