Sideboxes missing after Override/Template change

I have managed to get most of the Override /template thing working, but when I switch to the new template, the side boxes normally in the classic green (default?) model have disappeared.

I can not find how to get those sideboxes etc to show up. Can someone please point a beginner in the right direction please?

I've read the spots off the manual, sepecially Chp.17, and am obviously missing something.
Some of the directories don't appear to be exactly like the manual, so it gets a little confusing. Especially the bit about where to put my new template-name directories. Which is probably what I am doing wrong.

anyway, I just need to know what and where I put the directories in my override map so the sideboxes show up.

Thanks for any help,
Robert

Did you go to admin -> tools -> layout boxes controller and reset the sideboxes?

Re: Sideboxes missing after Override/Template change

Thanks Clyde,
too obvious - which is why I didn't see it :-)

I guess I should also put a <your-template-name> directory in there with the classic and copy all the sidebox files into it yes/no ?
....
sideboxes
classic
mytemplate
banner_box.php
.......
.......

thanks
Robert

Not really necessary unless you edit/change any of the sidebox files.

I had the same problem, this got my sideboxes back. However it has lost my sort order and which boxes are enabled. Can I copy that info from somewhere in the classic folder, or do I have to set it manually again?

Thanks

Re: Sideboxes missing after Override/Template change

I lost my folder under includes/languages/classic awhile ago. It isn't in any of my folders even in my web-hosting folder. Where can I get a copy of it? Do I need to download whole the zen-cart program then copy and put it in? Patty:unsure:

Yes, but then download and install mod from
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=260

Re: Sideboxes missing after Override/Template change

Do I download both zip files in the Zen-Cart full release on SourceForge?

Re: Sideboxes missing after Override/Template change

I downloaded the Zen-Cart again and when I go to includes/languages/classic/classic file when I click on it is empty. But the english folder when I click on it takes me to the classic header. Is this suppose to be that way or am I missing something in the includes/languages/classic/classic. Thanks. weddinggowns

Re: Sideboxes missing after Override/Template change

There's a 'classic' folder inside many of the folders in that area. I believe you only need to copy the files to that location if you want to change the settings in said files. (This is the override system mentioned in a few places.) If you're not changing the default settings from the english folder, you can leave things as they are.

The empty text files are most likely only necessary for the ZIP file's internal sorting. They don't take up any disk or server space, so they're not even worth the time to delete each one.

O, thanks Robert & Clyde for having and solving the sidebar problem. Came upon it myself, tonight.

Re: Sideboxes missing after Override/Template change

I edited the sidebar sections I want to display, but the only one that ever shows up is "Categories." Not sure why. I'm using Zen 1.3.8.

Re: Sideboxes missing after Override/Template change

I just discovered, if I click "Reset" it turns on whatever the default values are for the sidebar boxes for each template.
