    Default Service Product type guidance

    Good day all,

We are looking for a way to have a product that I guess is virtual.
It is a service charge ( like a labor charge ) for various services.

I am thinking the best way to do this is a new product type and I was looking for a little guidance with this.

I'm sure this as been discussed before but I am not able to locate much information on it.

Anyone who has been able to create a service like product care to share some guidance?

Is the service charge a requirement of purchasing anything else?

    Thanks for the reply.

    Not neccessarily...
    example:

    1 hour labor: 79.99
    1 pickup service: 9.99

It basically needs to be something in the products catalog with a price that can be added to the cart.

Attributes have a choice of also adding a 1 time charge to them ... where the charge is applied based on the product being in the cart and not the quantity of the product added ...

Perhaps you can utilize that for this ...

That would work for some options yes.

Theres over 20 different seervcie charges we have right now

    Pickup
    drop off
    one hour labour
recyle charge ( various fees )
    component install
    etc

So I wanted to be able to display these items on the website but not all of them purchaseable from the web.

Basically we are in the works as using zencart as a base system ( customer, products, services, etc ) and we are hoping to design a POS in store.

This is why i thought maybe a new proudt type would help to sort out the services from the products.

The idea of using attributes for some items might just work and I am indeed going to have to look into to that.

    Any other thoughts?
