Pre Launch Cart Question

Hi,

I've setup a consignment shop and have been advertising for it's launch in the middle of March. I now have several consignments and am beginning to add the to the shop without problems. My question is, is there a way to have everything EXCEPT the actual catalog show when people visit the site? I don't want people visiting and seeing 20 items when I'm in the process of listing over 2000 items. :blink:

I want the site to look just as it would if a visitor came (sideboxes, header, main welcome body, footer, etc) but I just don't want the any instance of products showing. I tried the maintenance feature but it takes the welcome body away.

Right now I just have a redirect setup to bring them to custom made "maintenance page" but I REALLY want the shop (minus the products) to be there.

I know the other option is to turn each item "off" but when I'm done adding 2000 items, it'll take forever to turn them back on! :shocking:

Any help would be much appreciated!

You could turn off all your categories when creating them, which would then turn off all their attached products. Although not a perfect solution, it's surely a better method than turning off and on every product.

Regarding turning off and on every product, there's probably an SQL statement you could run to do it all in one step anyway. Same probably applies to categories if you're going to be doing lots of them.

There might be a more appropriate solution to your problem but that's what my initial idea would be.

Wouldn't it be easier to put the site in Maintainence Mode?

Admin > Configuration > Website Maintenance
