    Default newbie with issues...

    I know this has been answered several times, I have read the replies several times,. I have downloaded the index.php and tried to edit it with notepad, but I cant find the "congratulations, you have ..." I want to either remove this or edit it. I cant find it where it is said to be. I have included a copy of my index.php. maybe I am just not seeing it.
    please help me..

    You're looking at the wrong index.php file. The one you need is in
    includes/languages/ENGLISH/index.php. And after customizing would
    go back in your includes/languages/ENGLISH/your_custom_template/index.php.

    If you don't already have an unzipped copy of the version of Zen Cart that your
    using on your computer, you should do that so you can get familiar with the file structure.

    I tried following that path and it takes me to header.php.. what am I doing wrong?

    If you go to includes/languages/ENGLISH/index.php, there will be a whole bunch of files and directories - one of the files will be index.php.

    After you modify it to suit your needs, then put it in includes/languages/ENGLISH/your_custom_template
