ZC does this wonderfully, you just have to know where to look. First, set up the product you want to have quantity discounts on in Admin/Catalog/Categories Products. Use the base 1-item price as the price.

Then, go to Admin/Catalog/Products Price Manager. Select the category that you put this item in, then highlight the item and click on the "Display" button. Make sure the right product is shown above the "Edit" button or you'll wind up making the changes on the wrong product. (Don't ask me how I know that.) Under the red "Preview Only ... Current Price Status" is an "Edit" button; click on it.

Under a lot of filled-in boxes you will see a button labelled "add blank discounts." The number of blank discounts to be added at a time can be set in the config settings, I don't remember exactly where but it doesn't matter, if you want more blank boxes than the number given, just click the button again. Then fill in the first quantity at which you will offer a discount, and the amount or percentage. The "Discount Type" box will tell ZC how to handle it, and you can discount either from the official price or a special price you have on the product. Repeat until you have filled in all the quantity breaks you want to offer. I suggest discounting an amount or a percentage rather than to a given price, because that way, when you raise the base price, the quantity break prices will adjust right along and you won't have to edit each quantity break manually. (Just call me Lazy ...) Be SURE to hit "Update" to record the quantity breaks you just figured and typed in!

As you can see from my link, the quantity breaks DO show up on the product page.

If you want different prices for different attributes of a product, you can do that with ZC too, but give me some examples and I'll tell you how to do it.
Thank you so much - this is perfect, exactly what I want.

Will be going off to try it out shortly, sure I'll be back for help, but brilliant, thanks again.

help question Re: discount on attributes by price

    Hi!

I think I'm as new or newer than the original postee here, and I'm working on the same issue.

I would like to offer quantity discounts for different attributes (volume) of a product. Ie, for a product, I'd like a different discount for the pint, quart, and gallon options.

I like your explanation, but don't know how to apply it to an attribute rather than the whole product.

The product I'm trialling this with is here - please excuse the crudity of the current template. I won't get into that right now ;)
    I could really use a buddy ;)

I see how to set discounts on individual attributes, but is there a way to make the little chart appear for discounts applied as attributes or is that something I just have to put in manually?

When you add Attributes Qty Price Discount: example:
    1:11,3:10.00,6:9.00,9:8.00,12:7.00,15:6.00
A link is added on the page for this reading:
    Quantity Discounts Available

This will bring up a table with those discounts ...

    Zen Cart version 1.3.6

    Site: http://www.australianstory.net.au/blanklabels/index.php

I want to give my customers volume discounts on a percentage basis - if you order 10 boxes - 5%; 20 boxes - 7.5% etc. I have discovered two options:

In the Product Price Manager it is pretty straightforward ... I've done that on one product:

    http://www.australianstory.net.au/bl...roducts_id=304

BUT there seems to be no way you can copy this to all the other products on the site. You have to do each one manually ... and I've got over 1500 products listed ... and I'm just a bit reluctant to do them all one product at a time!

The other way to do it is thru the Attributes Controller using the Attributes Qty Price Discount box, but there seems to be no way you can make that a percentage discount.

I reckon there must be a fairly simple solution to the problem ... I just haven't been able to find it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Well, that's been a learning experience!

I learned that the quantity discount feature only works on the lowest price of the attributes prices. So if you have a number of variations on a product priced by attributes your customers will be charged the lowest price only.

I also learned that you should check that something works before you commit to making changes. I had done several hundred products buy the time we found this out! We had to switch them all off in a hurry!

    Suggestions for future development:

    • Make the quantity discounts work so that it automatically calculates the discounts on the prices set by all the attributes.

    • On the page where you set the volume discounts (Products Price Manager) there should be less steps to go thru. Now you have to

    1. Display the product
    2. Hit the 'Edit' button
    3. Hit the 'Add blank discounts' button
    4. Edit the table.
    5. Hit the 'Update' button.
Steps 2 and 3 could easily be eliminated, removing a lot of frustration if you have a lot of products to update!

    • Provide a global update feature - at least update by category like the Attribute Manager does. This is an essential for websites with large numbers of products.

I'm intrigued ... no response to my comments above. Does anyone read them? I reckon I've made some useful suggestions ... will they ever be considered, or should I make them somewhere else?
