Moving existing website - need advice

I built my site with a website builder and want to switch to utilize a better shopping cart. I've been playing around with Zen Cart, and I love it, but I'm a one product shop. I'd like to keep my existing website code and integrate ZenCart for the "Order Now" portion. Can I do this effectively or will it look bad?

My main reason for switching is to have county level tax codes.

You can "limit" (reduce) the features that zencart offers (such as switching off all sideboxes, disabling the display of other data, etc).

It should be possible then, to have the checkout functionality of zencart as a feature of your existing website.

The aim would be that once your visitors are in your webshop (the zencart area of your site), they would not be given options to navigate around what are ordinarily zencart features, and that navigation to your existing site's pages could be displayed instead (such as through ezpages links, etc).

With a bit of imagination and planning, this could be achieved, but you must do so WITHOUT trying to REMOVE core code. Lots happens in the background with zencart and (sometimes) the simple omission of a closing php tag can render important operations inactive!
