How are backorders handled?

Is there a way to not charge for back-ordered items until they are in stock?

For instance, a customer orders an item that is temporarily out of stock, I want to authorize his credit card, and then charge it when I ship the order.

Then, what if a buyer buys 3 items, two of which are in stock, and the third is not, is there a way to charge for the in stock items now, and then complete the charge for the remaining item after I ship the rest of the order?

Sorry, that feature is not available at this time. You would have to keep track of the split charges manually for now.

You do have the option of not allowing the customer to checkout with out of stock items though. See Admin> Configuration> Stock
