For the payment tests, you can either reconfigure paypal to point to their sandbox environment (requires setting up a test/dev account). Alternatively, when i'm testing I usually also setup a $.01 cent test product and have a friend checkout.
I had a friend purchase a couple of products. Once we confirmed the payment went through via PayPal I used the Admin feature for sending a full refund. Worked perfect for me and my friend.
I like the idea of a test product for a penny. Very good idea.

Yeah thats how i been testing but thought there was another way so I could actually see what she is getting when she pays and then gets no download to the zip file she just purchased.
I followed a tutorial on the making of downloadable products but when she pays she doesnt get the czp to download.

Ask her for her customer account password, and go into My Account, look at the orders she placed. If you click to see the order details, you'll also see the download links ... the same way she would at the end of checkout.
She can of course also see them from My Account the same way you would using her password.
You can also test PayPal by setting up a second PayPal account. You're allowed two accounts: one personal, and one premier/business. Just do test transactions between them, and refund when done testing.
