Free Shipping problem

I have items in my store that I want to ship free but want to have the postage paid on heavier items when both these item types are ordered at the same time.

I thought that I could simply mark the lighter items “always free ship” but when I update the item I receive the following warning no matter if I have the “Free shipping” module turned on or off.:
Warning: This product is marked - Free Shipping, Shipping Address Required
Free Shipping Module is required when all products in the order are Always Free Shipping Products

I received the impression from that that all items for that order must be “free shipping” but don’t believe that to be true.

If I order just 1 item that is marked “Free Shipping” the only shipping option to appear is is “free shipping” which is fine.

When I add a heavier item which is not marked “Always free shipping”, the other shipping options (first class, etc) appear but so does the “Free shipping” option appear which could easily be selected by the customer.

I have also tried using the shipping option to would provide free shipping only when the weight was 0. This did not seem to work.

In summary, I would like the “free shipping” option not to appear when the order includes a non “free shipping” item or one that has a weight associated with it?

No matter how I set up the modules, I can’t seem to get rid of the “free shipping” option at billing time when a heavier item is added to the order.

I have spent quite a bit of time going through the forum q&a but not come up with an answer.

I am ready to start over. Anyone have any suggestions on how I should go about achieving this seemingly simple task?

Also is there any way to show a "free shipping" icon on each item like the "sold out" icon?

Free Shipping freeshipper is used for Always Free Shipping and for 0 weight items when 0 weight is marked as Free Shipping in the Shipping/Packaging ...

Ensure that you have the right Free Shipping freeshipper shipping module installed and that you have not also installed Free Shipping Options freeoptions ...
