File name of front page

Hi,

I am trying to re-order the main homepage.

Basically I want to have

New products
Catogories (pulled in from catalog)
Specials

I dont think you can do this from the admin panel - you can only reorder specials, new products etc but cant reorder the catagories (you can only either have them on or off). Im quite comfortable moving the PHP code around but I cannot figure out which actual page /override the mainpage is - i thought it was templates/tpl_index_default.php but it doesnt seem to be.

is there an easy way to tell what page is what? - the pagename in the browser window often doesnt corrolate to the actual page that needs adjusting....
