How do I set it so the sign up email must be validated via a email validation link?

There's no setting in admin to do what you mention. If you feel confident enough, take a look at the Newsletter Subscribe mod. It requires its subscribers to validate their email address by clicking a link in their welcome email.

Yes, if it was me, that's where I would start.

A lot of people have asked about this feature in the past, so it may be that someone out there already has a solution. As far as I'm aware, there isn't one publicly available.

Thanks for your time. I would think this would be a popular request and I am surprised I couldn't find more info. Thank you again!!

... and we add further to the list of create account features - validate vs don't validate email addresses -

Are you going to prevent someone from checking out while they validate their email account? More obstacles to checking out = fewer orders ...
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

I don't think having validated email address is necessary as someone who is paying money for your product isn't likely to use a fake email address. Now if they are attempting to use someone else's information to buy things for themselves then a validated email address isn't going to stop that. There are other services you can use to help against that.

I do think however that a verification field for email addy should be added, like there is for a password.

    or
More obstacles to checking out = fewer fraudulent orders which are nearly always from a fake email address.

Thanks for this tip. While I appreciate the argument against it, Email validation during account creation is simply a 'must have' for our site... it unfortunately is not an option.

That being said, our current process for achiving this is broken and we need to fix it asap. Any chance that some kind zen master (or someone else) can post some code on how best to use this newsletter email verification code in the account creation process?

Many thanks for any help you might provide.

    Regards,
    Mike

Implementing a new feature for account email validation would require a lot of changes, probably including new database tables. I doubt it's something which could be posted in a forum thread. I do appreciate the benefits such a mod can bring to certain stores and I have considered writing it before but, in any case, I feel it's way too close to v2.0 to start working on a big mod like this. Also, it's hard not to notice the increasing popularity of temporary email addresses.
