Default MySql server has gone away

I am getting this error fairly frequently when I am trying to open my main page. I seriously have no idea what it means. I am a total newbie and really know nothing....

I emailed the host and they said "I would recommend contacting the person who developed your website and enquire as to the original of the error message, as this message is generated from a script on your website, which we do not support."

Please help me as I am sure that I will be losing customers because of this.

2006 MySQL server has gone away

Tell your host it is NOT a script error,

MySQL Error 2006, is normally caused by the sql server restarting during a query, the main server lost the connection to sql server while processing the request...

So should I just copy what you wrote exactly and see what they come up with next?

    No direct them to

    http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/gone-away.html
    http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/...on-errors.html

Then I would think about switching hosts because they dont appear to have any knowledge of server administration since they sent you here.

either that, or that dont care about customer service... Either way, I would not stick around...

Holy cow.. See I know nothing about this kind of thing. This is my first ever site and I am trying to learn things as I go along. Dangerous, I know..

I am going to email them again with the links you have put up there and see what they have to say. Thank you so much the_ancient for your help. It is 9.50pm here at the moment in Aussie land so they will probably not get back to me for another 15hours at least.

Learning is never a dangerous thing....

I started out about 15 years ago selling Car audio, I had never built a web site before, My first one was not Zen Cart it was a Plain HTML site and it was TERRIBLE.......

I dont sell car audio anymore, today I built sites for other people, over the past 15 years I have taught myself everything, and today I am pretty damn good at writing programs, I do it now everyday as a full time job....

    So just stick with it.......

    BTW You never stop learning.....

Anyone that says they no everything about any subject is flat out lying...

I make it a Point to read atleast 1 Non-fiction Book a Month, I it not always Computer Related, but Programming books too make up a large portion of my library...

Get a couple of good PHP and mySQL books. I recommend Buying because they are good references to have as well..
